Nick Allen
Geologie

Nick, Founder and CEO of Geologie, a personalized skincare company, is a company builder and investor with extensive public and private market experience. Most recently, he worked at General Motors focused on commercialization of autonomous vehicles and prior to that was Founder and CEO of Shuddle, the first ride share service built specifically for busy families and their children. Previously, Nick was Co-Founder, CFO and Head of Operation at SideCar (acquired by General Motors) – the first on-demand rideshare company and a Partner at Spring Ventures, where he coined the investment category cleanweb to describe the intersection of IT and resource efficiency. He spent several years in public market equities at Morgan Stanley, where he led their cleantech equity research group and was the top ranked analyst in terms of stock performance.

Lex Machina

Josh, the CEO of big data IP litigation and analytics firm Lex Machina, has a long history as a business and social entrepreneur. New Cycle’s investments include OPower, Renewable Funding, PeoplePower, GoalSpring, Saber es Poder, and Terrapass. Josh is a National leader in clean energy policy as well as clean energy investing. He is a co-founder of both Cleantech for Obama and the Clean Economy Network. Previously he was at Redpoint Ventures, DCM, McKinsey & Co, Netscape, and Agile Software. He was the 2nd employee at EarthWeb, which went public in 1998. In 2000 Josh founded Full Circle Fund and continues to serve as Board Chair. He was recently project lead in building GreenCitiesCalifornia.org. For the last six years he has been on the Board of Full Circle Fund, One Economy, and is Treasurer of the Board of Trustees for the University of California at Merced. He has a MBA and JD from Stanford and serves on the Advisory Board for the Stanford Business School Fund.

 

Jeffrey M. Capaccio

Jeffrey Capaccio is of counsel in the Litigation Practice Group of Carr & Ferrell.  Mr. Capaccio specializes in complex business litigation, intellectual property litigation, public policy counseling and international law.  Multiple trials, as well as hundreds of arbitrations and mediations across a broad range of areas including complex commercial disputes, professional liability, and general liability matters, have allowed Mr. Capaccio to hone a practical, results-oriented approach for his clients.

With an extensive network of technology professionals, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, academicians (US and European), as well as vast public sector relationships, his clients have increasingly called upon Mr. Capaccio for assistance with international technology transfer, strategic business alliances and matters before public bodies and institutions at the national, state and local levels as well as abroad.  Mr. Capaccio serves as Regional Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors for the National Italian American Foundation, a Washington D.C.—based, non-profit organization, where he frequently interacts with influential business and government leaders. Additionally, Mr. Capaccio speaks fluent Italian and French and conversational Spanish.

Jamie Daves is the Co-founder and CEO of the learning innovation studio Learner X. He is an experienced entrepreneurial leader who has helped launch and manage many businesses and social enterprises in media, technology, education and other fields.

Highlights of his career include: co-founding Current TV, the pioneering cable network which is now largest independent channel in U.S.; working as an venture capital investor and advisor at City Light Capital & Platform Equity where he focused on education & media investments in companies including 2tor, Worldwide Biggies, TheWrap.com & InstreamGlobal; and, serving in government at the Federal Communications Commission as a Special Assistant for Policy & Communications to Chairman William E. Kennard, during which time among other responsibilities he led efforts on broadband deployment to schools, libraries and health centers.

Jamie attended Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business (MBA), School of Education; University of Pennsylvania (BA), is an experienced public speaker, and has appeared in media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek & MSNBC.

Carrie Norton is the Founder and President of Green Business BASE CAMP, a global immersion training program and on-line education platform for early stage green business and clean tech entrepreneurs.  Carrie’s broad expertise in sustainable business and entrepreneurship has evolved as strategic career choices allowed her to appreciate a range of perspectives, starting with her positions at Garage Technology Ventures and Idealab.

Most recently, Carrie served early-adopting clients such as Google, Sony, and British Telecom as a senior executive responsible for Market and Project Development during her 7-year tenure in the commercial solar power industry.  Carrie is a Catto Environmental Fellow of the Aspen Institute, Class of 2010. She co-founded the Sustainable Business Council of Los Angeles, and her community leadership also includes work with Grid Alternatives, the Clean Economy Network and Net Impact.

An adjunct Faculty member at the Graziadio School of Management at Pepperdine University, Carrie earned an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a BA from Trinity University.  Carrie speaks and consults frequently on innovation & entrepreneurship, clean tech, and triple bottom line investing.

 

Barbara O’Connor
California State University, Sacramento

Dr. O’Connor is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of political communication and telecommunications policy and applications. She is the author of numerous publications in both of these areas.

Her numerous appointments, boards and chairs, include the: California Educational Technology Committee; Washington, DC based Alliance for Public Technology; Alliance; California Public Broadcasting Commission; Network Reliability and Interoperability Council; Bellcore’s Advisory Board; ATT’s Consumer Advisory Panel; Verizon’s Consumer Collaborative Council; ETS international ICT literacy effort; National ICT Policy Council; and California Educational Technology Industry Task Force. Dr. O’Connor is an expert consultant and has served a wide array of business, media, telecommunications, federal and state clients and task forces.

Awards and honors include: 1990 California State University outstanding teaching award; 1994 California State University Alumni Distinguished Professor Award; 1996 Technology Leadership award; 1998 Technology Pioneer Award.  Recent research grants and projects, include: Ten California Public Utilities Commission Telecommunications Graduate Fellowships; and the Sacramento County Communications Audit and Web Portal development project.

Dr. O’Connor received her Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Southern California in 1974. She was featured in Newsweek’s 1995 “50 for the Future” a feature on the fifty people who will set policy and direction for global communications. Dr. O’Connor has always blended her teaching, research and community service into a consistent commitment to explain the role of media in society and its impact on citizens, institutions and the democratic process.

 

Yo Yoshida

Yoshida is the CEO and Founder of Appallicious, a Civic Startup based in San Francisco that creates products to help government better serve its citizens. He is a seasoned innovator, entrepreneur, industry writer, and start-up adviser with a passion for government and technology.

Yo has been working with the White House, FEMA, nongovernmental organizations, universities, foundations, first responders and local governments for a year and a half on a project to leverage technology and data to help communities respond to and recover from disasters. What started as the first full-life cycle Disaster Assistance and Assessment Dashboard (DAAD) has been transformed through extensive iterative stakeholder development and design sessions into the Community Resilience Platform (CRP). The CRP is the first daily use, customizable, white label preparedness, collaboration, planning, response, and recovery platform developed for communities to build their own regional and local resilience platforms.

Yo was honored to present his work at the White House last year for the White House Innovation for Disaster Response and Recovery Initiative. In 2013, Yo received the national Exemplary Leadership Award from the Center for Digital Government for his work with open data. Appallicious created San Francisco’s Rec & Park app, featured by the U.S. Department of Energy, and named one of the “7 open data apps every city should have” by Mashable. The civic startup developed the transformative Neighborhood Score app, which was launched by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Appallicious was also awarded by the Silicon Valley Innovation Summit in 2012 and 2013 as one of the top 100 Tech Startups to Watch.
