Erin Lehane
Membership Director
Erin is a campaign consultant with a record of achieving success by building consensus among diverse groups, including organized labor and business. Most recently, she managed the Sacramento mayoral primary campaign of former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson (described in the New York Times as the most acrimonious campaign in the city’s history). In that race her candidate went from seven points down in the polls two weeks before the election to a seven-point victory over an incumbent. A grassroots campaign designed and implemented by Ms. Lehane, that brought together democrats and republicans, ethnic and racial groups, public safety, and most notably, the Chamber of Commerce and organized labor, was widely credited as the key to this victory.
Erin has assisted a wide variety of public interest and business entities. She managed and served as spokesperson for a statewide Indian-gaming initiative (which included six hour-long, one-on-one televised debates and scores of public appearances), helped the National Education Association pass a statewide school-funding initiative, managed the 2004 Presidential electoral effort for America Votes in the battleground state with the greatest level of voter turn out and the largest margin of victory, and put together a paid multi-city interactive phone program to drive attendance for the release of Michael Moore’s movie Sicko. She is also credited with saving the trucking industry in Maine by designing and obtaining legislative approval for a retroactive overtime pay agreement between the Teamsters Union and the Maine Truckers Association, two groups who had historically been bitter rivals.
Prior to becoming a full time campaign consultant Erin was a practicing attorney and a lobbyist. A graduate of Vassar College and Boston College Law School (having attended both on full academic scholarships), she lives in San Francisco with her husband and daughter.
